By Sean Goebel
The good:>This adapter enables Nikon lenses to be mounted to Canon cameras. The tolerances are good, so everything fits snugly and there is no wobble/play.The bad:>Sometimes the lens doesn't quite lock into place on the adapter. The spring-loaded pin isn't sufficiently tensioned, and indeed it sticks out if the lens isn't in the correct position. This will lock the adapter onto the camera--I had 15 minutes of terror when the adapter wouldn't come off my camera, wondering if my 5D2 had permanently become Nikon-mount. Finally I managed to tweak the lens-release lever (which is on the camera side of the adapter and thus is difficult to access) and get the adapter off.>It would be nice if the aperture adjustment slider would lock into position at the extremes of its movement. When using Nikon-mount lenses that have an aperture adjustment ring, you have to remember to set the aperture on the lens AND max out the slider on the adapter. I recently set a lens to f/11, but forgot to adjust the slider, and as a result my photos were all at f/5.6 or so. If the aperture slider locked into position at the "closed down" extreme, this problem would be avoided.>As others have noted, there is an excess of grease on the product. I started out by wiping off as much as I could with a paper towel, which reduced the amount of grease that will end up on the lens.>Lens distance scales are not accurate when using the adapter. Infinity focus is well before the infinity marking of the lens.

My first impression is using this adapter to put a 50mm 1.8 AF-D on a 7D. There is a release mechanism to get the adapter off the lens which took me a minute to find. Pushing it in and twisting with a healthy amount of muscle seemed to work well. The adapter fits on the lens very tightly, almost too tightly. On a 7D, the adapter fit fine, wasn't loose and wasn't hard to get off. Lots of complaints are about the tightness and difficulty getting this adapter off the lens. I admit it took me about two minutes the first time, but will only take seconds now that I know what to do.Being able to adapt the lens and control the aperture of the Nikon lens is so nice. I personally own a Nikon D90 body and use a 7D for "work". I always wanted to use my 35mm 1.8 AF-S on the body, but waited until a reasonable priced adapter was available. More expensive ones are out there, that might work a little better, but for over two hundred dollars... I'll stick with this guy since it is only occasional usage.Build quality is acceptable for not being a workhorse device. I am a little worried that the aperture level seems to be lubricated by a generous portion of grease. If this adapter gets near hair, dust or dirt the grease will store the grease and dirt for later, or the grease seems to be getting ready to come off onto my fingers or in my camera bag. After mounting the lens on the adapter and move the aperture lever a few times, some grease started to ooze out from behind the lever. Not exactly ideal, but the item is still worth $18.

lens adapter got jammed on the lens and had to be pried off with pliers. Not pleased with quality of product
