By D. Schmidek
The grip is an accessory you should have for this camera. I do have larger hands, so holding the camera is a bit uncomfortable. But with the grip it helps out a lot.Benefits of it: Can put in 2 battery packs to have lots of shooting time without switching. Also there are camera controls (trigger and other controls) on it which allow you to shoot vertical pictures without having to twist your hands. While it adds some weight, the camera is actually too light for my taste. Adding this to it helps keep my shots steadier without having to rely too much on IS lenses.I also had the appropriate grip on my Canon Rebel XTi and never took it off for years. There is also an adapter included that will take AA batteries if you are desperate for power and forgot your charger.

By Plankwing
I bought the T2i for my wife. This is the eighth EOS camera we've bought; the first two were film SLR, the T2i is the sixth DSLR. We've bought the battery grips for all eight when we bought each camera. They double the number of shots as well as make vertical shooting much easier. Unless one is put off by the extra weight, our opinion is the battery grips are must-have accessories. Example: May of this year she shot over 800 photos in one day (and I shot over 1100 with my 7D) yet all batteries showed over 1/2 charge remaining. We were shooting birds from blinds (with gimbals on tripods) and the zoom-lens collars allowed rotating to either vertical or horizontal and the shutter releases on the battery grips allowed vertical shooting without having to twist our hands to reach the shutter releases on the camera bodies.

By A. Swarthout
Paid a premium on this due to it being sold out elsewhere but it was essential to an upcoming video shoot. It adds nice weight to the T2i and makes the camera feel a bit more solid. The AA battery cartridge that comes along with it saved my shoot as I was out of juice on my E8 batteries with no way to recharge quickly. I popped six readily-available AA's in and finished off the video shoot with no problems.
