Love this thing. I already had the canon brand ir remote that's compatible with my camera, canon t1i. but it only works directly in front of the camera and has a 2 second delay. i wanted something more versatile that i could use from any angle and this is it. and the fact that you can half press to focus, was something i wouldn't expect to see out of a product in this price range. i've had it for several months now and havn't had any issues. i've used it from a different room and still got it to fire. i dunno wut the effective range would be. but it works for my needs.the only issues i would add is the battery for the remote is a bit unusual so some people have trouble finding replacements. and as other reviewers have said about this product. the button is sensitive and may get pressed while being stored in a bag. u could either take the battery out. but what i did was i had found a small container that was able to fit both pieces inside snugly. and since the receiver unit is quite bigger than the remote. when pressing on the sides of the container. it kept it from making contact with the remote's button

Works very well so far. Range is way longer then I would ever need on fresh batteries. Pay attention to put batteries in the right direction as well. The plastic construction could be a little stronger though.

I bought this item for remote trigger of my Canon Rebel XS during the Transit of Venus, and it worked wonderfully. I have since used it to take group photos. Its nice to be able to take a group shot remotely, without having to set the timer and run into position. I am only giving this 4 stars, b/c the receiver uses AAA batteries, while the transmitter uses a smaller, more expensive battery. Also, the receiver has an on/off switch, while the transmitter does not. Aside from these two minor complaints, the positives outweigh the negatives for me.
